Foundation Stage

With lots of exciting things happening every day, please check book bags for important messages and ensure reading packs are brought to school every day.  Settling in to a new class is an important time so please come and speak to us if you have any questions.   We will be adding photographs and information to our class page for you to share and enjoy with your child.

P.E.

Our P.E. days are Monday and Friday. However, please ensure that your child's P.E. kit is in school each day. We have separated outdoor kits from indoor kits in order to create more space in the cloakroom and to help the children with which items they need each session. Please also ensure that your child has a change of underwear in their P.E. bag, in case of an accident and that girls have socks to change into if they are coming to school in tights on P.E. days.

Library

We visit the Library on a Friday afternoon. A new book will only be issued if the current one has been returned. Books can be handed in before Friday if easier, we will keep them safe in class.

Homework

Homework packs will go out each Friday. In the blue homework book will be an explanation of our learning for the week and what has been covered in Phonics. Homework will also be explained along with any reminders. Please write a general comment in the comment box as you wish and do record each time your child reads, comments can be written in the Reading Record section in the blue book. Homework packs and reading books need to be handed in each Wednesday morning.

Snack Money

We will send out reminders for the cost of snack money each half term. Please send it in a named purse or envelope and we will take care of the rest. Snack time is at either 10am or 10.15am each day, the children can choose either a slice of toast or a bag of fruit to have with their milk or water.

Our Learning in Autumn 1

What a super first half term!

We are so proud of how all the new Foundation Stage pupils have settled into school. Lovely friendships have been formed, the rules and routines are being followed well and we have already seen so much wonderful work!

In Phonics we have started learning some of our letter sounds after spending a week playing some very important listening games. We are able to recognise some 'tricky' words by sight and we are having a good go at sounding out and reading decodable words. Handwriting sessions have run alongside our Phonics lessons, in which we have practised writing our sounds cursively, often using a range of mark making materials and beginning by creating big movements.

In Maths we have worked on number recogniton and careful counting as well as using numbers 1 to 9 as labels. Our Numicon shapes have been introduced and we have enjoyed exploring the full range of Numicon resources in our play. We spent two weeks on Shape, learning the names and characteristics of 2D shapes. We enjoyed a shape hunt and playing shape bingo!

In Literacy, our focus text has been The Little Red Hen. We have had lots of fun in the Continuous Provision based on the story - creating and using a small world story tray, making hen masks and baking bread! We had a go at sounding out CVC words to label the characters in the story also.

Our R.E. and topic work has been all about ourselves, our names and our families. We have talked about our feelings, how we care for others and who loves and cares for us. We have drawn and labelled pictures of ourselves and our family members.
