Promoting Fundamental British Values.
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is "right" and "wrong", all people living in England are subject to its law.
The Key Values are:
Learning about other Faiths
We fundamentally believe that a greater understanding of other faiths and religions can only serve to enhance the children's understanding of what it means to be a Catholic in our society today. We want our children to be outward looking, tolerant and knowledgable.
The children will not just learn about their own faith. Through the 'Come and See' Religious Education scheme the children will about Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and Buddhism. Their lessons will involve visits to places of worship, visits from different religious leaders. We will also ensure that the children experience and learn about key festivals in faiths other than Catholicism for example Yom Kippur and Eid.
Promoting Catholic Values
At St Catherine’s your child will receive an education that is distinctly Catholic in it's nature.
We will aim to nurture in your child a 'love of God, a love of one another and a love of life itself'.
Our Gospel values should be evident not only in the words we speak but the way we treat each other. Through whole school assemblies, special celebrations, class activities and visiting speakers the children will learn about how the Gospel values can come to life.
British Values Curriculum
This following provides a summary of how our curriculum, supported by the 1decision programme, embeds the Fundamental British Values throughout all modules.
Our PSHE curriculum integrates the Fundamental British Values—Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs—across all learning modules. Through interactive videos, decision-making tasks, and scenario-based learning, children develop an understanding of how these values apply to everyday life. The programme encourages voting, understanding rules, making safe choices, respecting others, and appreciating diversity.
